Lacey's First Day In Toddlers

Today was Lacey's first day in the Toddler Room at daycare. I am both proud and sad to make the change.

The sad part really is leaving the teachers from the Infant Room. Ms. Chrissy and Ms. Cherry have been wonderful to Lacey, and after a year of knowing them, I really felt a superficial bond with them. On her last day there, I wasn't really sure what to say. So I just thanked them all for taking such good care of her and walked out. What else is there to say? I will miss them. It was as much a trusting and caring relationship for me as it was for Lacey. After all, she is my first child and I put a lot of faith into these people to care for her and they did it so amazingly. Moving on was probably harder for me than it is for Lacey. In fact, she doesn't even seem to know.

But the good parts are that she is now among her peers that are all in the same developmental stage. She can go outside to play and interact with her "old friends" from the infant room who moved on long before she did. I've been told that during her "visitation period", the babies all came up and gave her hugs and kisses as though they had missed her. Her Infant Room teacher, Ms. Hema, transferred to the Toddler Room so she is a familiar face to her as well. The other nice thing about the Toddler Room is that I don't have to take my shoes off to go in there. What a pain that was!

I'm excited to see how quickly Lacey develops now that she is with some older kids. I think it would be nice if her speech skills grew. She doesn't say many words that could be positively identified as a specific word. Besides mama and da-ee (daddy), she says "clap" like gla. So I'm hoping that by being around some older kids, her speech may develop a little more, though I must say that I love her jabbering just as it is. :)

It's a beautiful day today so I am sure they have spent time on the playground. I can't wait to pick her up and hear about all the fun things she's done today.
